One day he went into the house to attend to his duties, and none of the household servants was inside.


But he refused. ‘With me in charge,’ he told her, ‘my master does not concern himself with anything in the house; everything he owns he has entrusted to my care.


No-one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?’


my son, do not go along with them, do not set foot on their paths;


Wisdom will save you also from the adulterous woman, from the wayward woman with her seductive words,


The mouth of an adulterous woman is a deep pit; a man who is under the Lord’s wrath falls into it.


for an adulterous woman is a deep pit, and a wayward wife is a narrow well.


Like a bandit she lies in wait and multiplies the unfaithful among men.


For the lips of the adulterous woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil;


Keep to a path far from her, do not go near the door of her house,


She took hold of him and kissed him and with a brazen face she said:


They will keep you from the adulterous woman, from the wayward woman with her seductive words.


She sits at the door of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city,


‘Let all who are simple come to my house!’ To those who have no sense she says,


Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character.’


Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.


So I counsel younger widows to marry, to have children, to manage their homes and to give the enemy no opportunity for slander.


Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.


Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul.
