And when Pharaoh’s officials saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh, and she was taken into his palace.


Besides, she really is my sister, the daughter of my father though not of my mother; and she became my wife.


At that time Abimelek and Phicol the commander of his forces said to Abraham, ‘God is with you in everything you do.


Now there was a famine in the land – besides the previous famine in Abraham’s time – and Isaac went to Abimelek king of the Philistines in Gerar.


Then Abimelek said to Isaac, ‘Move away from us; you have become too powerful for us.’


When the men of that place asked him about his wife, he said, ‘She is my sister,’ because he was afraid to say, ‘She is my wife.’ He thought, ‘The men of this place might kill me on account of Rebekah, because she is beautiful.’

So is he who sleeps with another man’s wife; no-one who touches her will go unpunished.


Indeed, there is no-one on earth who is righteous, no-one who does what is right and never sins.


Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbour, for we are all members of one body.


Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices
