This is the account of Terah’s family line. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot.


Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Harran, they settled there.


Now Lot, who was moving about with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents.


But the land could not support them while they stayed together, for their possessions were so great that they were not able to stay together.


When Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive, he called out the 318 trained men born in his household and went in pursuit as far as Dan.


The king of Sodom said to Abram, ‘Give me the people and keep the goods for yourself.’


Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Harran.


Esau took his wives and sons and daughters and all the members of his household, as well as his livestock and all his other animals and all the goods he had acquired in Canaan, and moved to a land some distance from his brother Jacob.


But if a priest buys a slave with money, or if slaves are born in his household, they may eat his food.


‘So he left the land of the Chaldeans and settled in Harran. After the death of his father, God sent him to this land where you are now living.
