When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them.


Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognised by them when he broke the bread.


They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.


When he arrived and saw what the grace of God had done, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts.


strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. ‘We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,’ they said.


Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,


Then he went upstairs again and broke bread and ate. After talking until daylight, he left.


On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight.


On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them.


After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.


and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.’


Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.


You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons.


I praise you for remembering me in everything and for holding to the traditions just as I passed them on to you.


Now, brothers and sisters, if I come to you and speak in tongues, what good will I be to you, unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or word of instruction?


I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel –


built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.


And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.


because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now,


if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.


Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.


But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it,


not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.


But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.


We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.


But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.


They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.


But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit,
