Uriah said to David, ‘The ark and Israel and Judah are staying in tents, and my commander Joab and my lord’s men are camped in the open country. How could I go to my house to eat and drink and make love to my wife? As surely as you live, I will not do such a thing!’


The Lord sent Nathan to David. When he came to him, he said, ‘There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor.


Now Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, along with cedar logs and carpenters and stonemasons, and they built a palace for David.


They brought the ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and David sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before the Lord.


Nathan reported to David all the words of this entire revelation.


While she was still speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet arrived.


But Zadok the priest, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei and Rei and David’s special guard did not join Adonijah.


Azariah son of Nathan, in charge of the district governors; Zabud son of Nathan, a priest and advisor to the king;


‘My father David had it in his heart to build a temple for the Name of the Lord, the God of Israel.

As for the events of King David’s reign, from beginning to end, they are written in the records of Samuel the seer, the records of Nathan the prophet and the records of Gad the seer,


Now David had brought up the ark of God from Kiriath Jearim to the place he had prepared for it, because he had pitched a tent for it in Jerusalem.


He stationed the Levites in the temple of the Lord with cymbals, harps and lyres in the way prescribed by David and Gad the king’s seer and Nathan the prophet; this was commanded by the Lord through his prophets.


As for the other events of Solomon’s reign, from beginning to end, are they not written in the records of Nathan the prophet, in the prophecy of Ahijah the Shilonite and in the visions of Iddo the seer concerning Jeroboam son of Nebat?


He swore an oath to the Lord, he made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:


till I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.’


Then he brought the ark into the tabernacle and hung the shielding curtain and shielded the ark of the covenant law, as the Lord commanded him.


‘Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your panelled houses, while this house remains a ruin?’


His disciples remembered that it is written: ‘Zeal for your house will consume me.’


who enjoyed God’s favour and asked that he might provide a dwelling-place for the God of Jacob.
