‘ “But I will not take the whole kingdom out of Solomon’s hand; I have made him ruler all the days of his life for the sake of David my servant, whom I chose and who obeyed my commands and decrees.


‘But if you or your descendants turn away from me and do not observe the commands and decrees I have given you and go off to serve other gods and worship them,


I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will never take my love away from him, as I took it away from your predecessor.


He is the one who will build a house for my Name. He will be my son, and I will be his father. And I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever.”


He said to me, “Solomon your son is the one who will build my house and my courts, for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.


‘Blessed is the one whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.


I will proclaim the Lord’s decree: He said to me, ‘You are my son; today I have become your father.


I am with you and will save you,” declares the Lord. “Though I completely destroy all the nations among which I scatter you, I will not completely destroy you. I will discipline you but only in due measure; I will not let you go entirely unpunished.”


And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.’


Nevertheless, when we are judged in this way by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be finally condemned with the world.


And, ‘I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.’


Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you.


For to which of the angels did God ever say, ‘You are my Son; today I have become your Father’? Or again, ‘I will be his Father, and he will be my Son’?


Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.


Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.
