Once again there was a battle between the Philistines and Israel. David went down with his men to fight against the Philistines, and he became exhausted.


During harvest time, three of the thirty chief warriors came down to David at the cave of Adullam, while a band of Philistines was encamped in the Valley of Rephaim.


Now the Philistines had come and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim;


Afterwards, the prophet came to the king of Israel and said, ‘Strengthen your position and see what must be done, because next spring the king of Aram will attack you again.’


Once more the Philistines raided the valley;


It will be as when reapers harvest the standing corn, gathering the corn in their arms – as when someone gleans ears of corn in the Valley of Rephaim.


Then it ran up the Valley of Ben Hinnom along the southern slope of the Jebusite city (that is, Jerusalem). From there it climbed to the top of the hill west of the Hinnom Valley at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim.
