11 Before David got up the next morning, the word of the Lord had come to Gad the prophet, David’s seer:

The Lord sent Nathan to David. When he came to him, he said, ‘There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor.


‘Go and tell David, “This is what the Lord says: I am giving you three options. Choose one of them for me to carry out against you.” ’


When Azubah died, Caleb married Ephrath, who bore him Hur.


The Lord said to Gad, David’s seer,


(All these were sons of Heman the king’s seer. They were given to him through the promises of God to exalt him. God gave Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.)


As for the events of King David’s reign, from beginning to end, they are written in the records of Samuel the seer, the records of Nathan the prophet and the records of Gad the seer,


He stationed the Levites in the temple of the Lord with cymbals, harps and lyres in the way prescribed by David and Gad the king’s seer and Nathan the prophet; this was commanded by the Lord through his prophets.


But the prophet Gad said to David, ‘Do not stay in the stronghold. Go into the land of Judah.’ So David left and went to the forest of Hereth.


(Formerly in Israel, if someone went to enquire of God, they would say, ‘Come, let us go to the seer,’ because the prophet of today used to be called a seer.)
