Now Ahimaaz son of Zadok said, ‘Let me run and take the news to the king that the Lord has vindicated him by delivering him from the hand of his enemies.’


Then the Cushite arrived and said, ‘My lord the king, hear the good news! The Lord has vindicated you today by delivering you from the hand of all who rose up against you.’


They brought the head of Ish-Bosheth to David at Hebron and said to the king, ‘Here is the head of Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, your enemy, who tried to kill you. This day the Lord has avenged my lord the king against Saul and his offspring.’


The Lord says to my lord: ‘Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.’


He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me.


The Lord is a God who avenges. O God who avenges, shine forth.


For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.


It is mine to avenge; I will repay. In due time their foot will slip; their day of disaster is near and their doom rushes upon them.’


May the Lord judge between you and me. And may the Lord avenge the wrongs you have done to me, but my hand will not touch you.
