Again the anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and he incited David against them, saying, ‘Go and take a census of Israel and Judah.’


Jehu said, ‘Come with me and see my zeal for the Lord.’ Then he made him ride in his chariot.

For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge.


Those people are zealous to win you over, but for no good. What they want is to alienate you from us, so that you may have zeal for them.


You must destroy all the peoples the Lord your God gives over to you. Do not look on them with pity and do not serve their gods, for that will be a snare to you.


Saul said, ‘May God deal with me, be it ever so severely, if you do not die, Jonathan.’
