and because the Lord loved him, he sent word through Nathan the prophet to name him Jedidiah.


These are the names of the children born to him there: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,


when your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom.


but he did not invite Nathan the prophet or Benaiah or the special guard or his brother Solomon.


Then Nathan asked Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother, ‘Have you not heard that Adonijah, the son of Haggith, has become king, and our lord David knows nothing about it?

Was it not because of marriages like these that Solomon king of Israel sinned? Among the many nations there was no king like him. He was loved by his God, and God made him king over all Israel, but even he was led into sin by foreign women.
