So the man of God returned with him and ate and drank in his house.


You boasted against me and spoke against me without restraint, and I heard it.


‘The king will do as he pleases. He will exalt and magnify himself above every god and will say unheard-of things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been determined must take place.


he said, ‘Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?’


With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, ‘Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.’


Now for some time a man named Simon had practised sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great,


Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.


So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.


He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshipped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.


You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter.


Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.


With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed – an accursed brood!


Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute.


If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning.

Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position.
