You armed me with strength for battle; you humbled my adversaries before me.


But their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken.


for the power of the wicked will be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous.


He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.’


He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire.


There he broke the flashing arrows, the shields and the swords, the weapons of war.


Nothing will remain but to cringe among the captives or fall among the slain. Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.


He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.


Even if you were to defeat the entire Babylonian army that is attacking you and only wounded men were left in their tents, they would come out and burn this city down.’


A destroyer will come against Babylon; her warriors will be captured, and their bows will be broken. For the Lord is a God of retribution; he will repay in full.


But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.


Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled round your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,

And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets,


quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies.
