So Jacob served seven years to get Rachel, but they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her.


Make the price for the bride and the gift I am to bring as great as you like, and I’ll pay whatever you ask me. Only give me the young woman as my wife.’


Though I am lowly and despised, I do not forget your precepts.


The poor are shunned even by their neighbours, but the rich have many friends.


Those who flatter their neighbours are spreading nets for their feet.


See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.


But David said to Saul, ‘Who am I, and what is my family or my clan in Israel, that I should become the king’s son-in-law?’


Then Saul ordered his attendants: ‘Speak to David privately and say, “Look, the king likes you, and his attendants all love you; now become his son-in-law.” ’


When Saul’s servants told him what David had said,


Saul answered, ‘But am I not a Benjaminite, from the smallest tribe of Israel, and is not my clan the least of all the clans of the tribe of Benjamin? Why do you say such a thing to me?’
