So Jacob served seven years for Rachel: and they seemed but a few days, because of the greatness of his love.


Raise the dowery, and ask gifts, and I will gladly give what you shall demand: only give me this damsel to wife.


The poor man shall be hateful even to his own neighbour: but the friends of the rich are many.


A man that speaketh to his friend with flattering and dissembling words, spreadeth a net for his feet.


Behold what manner of charity the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called, and should be the sons of God. Therefore the world knoweth not us, because it knew not him.


And David said to Saul: Who am I, or what is my life, or my father's family in Israel, that I should be son-in-law of the king?


And Saul commanded his servants to speak to David privately, saying: Behold, thou pleasest the king; and all his servants love thee. Now therefore be the king's son-in-law.


And the servants of Saul told him, saying: Such words as these hath David spoken.


And Saul answering said: Am not I a son of Jemini of the least tribe of Israel, and my kindred the last among all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? Why then hast thou spoken this word to me?
