So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went in and slept with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.


So God said to Noah, ‘I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth.


It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of everyone; the living should take this to heart.


the prophets prophesy lies, the priests rule by their own authority, and my people love it this way. But what will you do in the end?


The end has come! The end has come! It has roused itself against you. See, it comes!


‘Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.


‘Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.


‘Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap.


Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.’


‘Why are you sleeping?’ he asked them. ‘Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.’


Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.


Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power.


What I mean, brothers and sisters, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they do not;


And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.


Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.


Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.


But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.


It teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,


not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.


Otherwise Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But he has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.


Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.


Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.


Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.


‘Look, I come like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake and remains clothed, so as not to go naked and be shamefully exposed.’
