20 We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

‘This is what the Lord says – Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.


For your Maker is your husband – the Lord Almighty is his name – the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth.


For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.


But the Lord is the true God; he is the living God, the eternal King. When he is angry, the earth trembles; the nations cannot endure his wrath.


In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. This is the name by which he will be called: The Lord Our Righteous Saviour.


He replied, ‘Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them.


For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.


Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.


No-one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in the closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.


On that day you will realise that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.


Jesus replied, ‘Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.


Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me.


Jesus answered: ‘Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, “Show us the Father”?


Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.


I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.


‘Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me.


Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.


Thomas said to him, ‘My Lord and my God!’


Jesus said to them, ‘If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me.


Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.


Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of the Messiah, who is God over all, for ever praised! Amen.


It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God – that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.


For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.


Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here!


may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,


and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ – the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.


Beyond all question, the mystery from which true godliness springs is great: He appeared in the flesh, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.


while we wait for the blessed hope – the appearing of the glory of our great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ,


But about the Son he says, ‘Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a sceptre of justice will be the sceptre of your kingdom.


No-one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.


As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.


whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.


And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Saviour of the world.


And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.


This is how you can recognise the Spirit of God: every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,


Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.


And if we know that he hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of him.


We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them.


Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.


and sang the song of God’s servant Moses and of the Lamb: ‘Great and marvellous are your deeds, Lord God Almighty. Just and true are your ways, King of the nations.


I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war.


‘To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation.
