12 Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother’s were righteous.

Adam made love to his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, saying, ‘God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him.’


And Absalom never said a word to Amnon, either good or bad; he hated Amnon because he had disgraced his sister Tamar.


The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them;


Those who repay my good with evil lodge accusations against me, though I seek only to do what is good.


Anger is cruel and fury overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy?


The bloodthirsty hate a person of integrity and seek to kill the upright.


The righteous detest the dishonest; the wicked detest the upright.


when anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path.


The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one,


And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.


‘Why? What crime has he committed?’ asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, ‘Crucify him!’


All you need to say is simply “Yes,” or “No”; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.

By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.


to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.


They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you.


The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.


Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error; they have been destroyed in Korah’s rebellion.


I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of God’s holy people, the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus. When I saw her, I was greatly astonished.
