The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor; let them be taken in the plans that they have imagined.


Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.


Why do the nations rage, and the peoples meditate on a vain thing?


For I have heard the slander of many; fear is on every side; because of their plottings together against me, they planned to take away my life.


For they do not speak peace; but they think deceitful things against the quiet ones of the earth.


They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, so that the name Israel may be remembered no more.


And He said to me, Son of man, these are the men who plot evil and give wicked advice in this city;


Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked by the wise men, was greatly enraged. And he sent and killed all the boys in Bethlehem, and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had carefully inquired of the wise men.


And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child. And when you have found him, bring me word again so that I may come and worship him also.


But seeking to lay hands on Him, they feared the crowd, because they held Him for a prophet.
