I trust in the Lord. How can you say to my soul, "Sojourn to the mountain, like a sparrow."


Why have the Gentiles been seething, and why have the people been pondering nonsense?


For even the sparrow has found a home for himself, and the turtle-dove a nest for herself, where she may lay her young: your altars, O Lord of hosts, my king and my God.


And he said to me: "Son of man, these are men who devise iniquity. And they offer a wicked counsel in this city,


Then Herod, seeing that he had been fooled by the Magi, was very angry. And so he sent to kill all the boys who were in Bethlehem, and in all its borders, from two years of age and under, according to the time that he had learned by questioning the Magi.


And sending them into Bethlehem, he said: "Go and diligently ask questions about the boy. And when you have found him, report back to me, so that I, too, may come and adore him."


And though they sought to take hold of him, they feared the crowds, because they held him to be a prophet.
