And it happened on the third day, Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast to all his servants. And he lifted up the head of the chief cupbearer, and of the chief baker, among his servants.


And the king made a great feast to all his princes and his servants, Esther's feast. And he ordered a release for the provinces, and gave gifts, according to the state of the king.


For Herod had laid hold on John, and had bound him, and had put him in prison because of Herodias his brother Philip's wife.


So he promised with an oath to give her whatever she would ask.


saying, Master, Moses said, If a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up seed to his brother.


And king Herod heard of Him (for His name had become well-known,) and he said that John the Baptist had been raised from the dead, and therefore mighty works operate in him.


For Herod himself had sent out and laid hold on John and had bound him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife. For he had married her,


And Herodias held it against him, and desired to kill him, but she could not.


And He charged them, saying, Take heed! Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the leaven of Herod.


The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying to Him, Go out and depart from here, for Herod will kill you.


And humiliating Him with his guardsmen, and mocking Him by putting luxurious clothing around Him, Herod sent Him again to Pilate.


And knowing that He belonged to Herod's jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who himself was also at Jerusalem at that time.


And in the fifteenth year of the government of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and the Trachonitus country, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene


But Herod the tetrarch (being reproved by him on account of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done)


and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, who ministered to Him of their possessions.


And at that time Herod the king threw on his hands to oppress some of those of the church.


For truly, against Your holy child Jesus, whom You have anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the nations, and the people of Israel, were gathered together
