then He is gracious to him and says, Deliver him from going down to the Pit; for I have found a ransom.


He has redeemed my soul from passing over into the Pit, and my life shall see the light.


You covered the deep as with a robe; the waters stand above the mountains.


They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys to the place which You have founded for them.


The sorrows of death hemmed me in, and the pains of hell took hold on me; I found trouble and sorrow.


Hear me quickly, O Jehovah; my spirit fails; do not hide Your face from me, lest I be like those who go down into the Pit.


For You will not leave My soul in hell; You will not allow Your Holy One to see corruption.


The sorrows of hell surrounded me; the snares of death confronted me.


O Jehovah, You have brought up my soul from the grave; You have kept me alive, so that I should not go down to the Pit.


What profit is in my blood, in going down to the pit? Shall the dust praise You? Shall it tell of Your truth?


But You, O God, will bring them down into the pit of ruin; bloody and deceitful men shall not live half their days; but I will trust in You.


The mountains are established by Your strength, banded together with might,


I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing; I have come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.


I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave; I have numbered the rest of my years.


Behold, I had great bitterness for peace; but You loved my soul from the pit of destruction. You have cast all my sins behind Your back.


Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and measured out the heavens with a span? And who has shut up the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?
