And Abner returned to Hebron. And Joab took him aside in the gate to speak with him privately. And he struck him there in the belly, and he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.


They speak vanity each one with his neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak.


Jehovah shall cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that speaks proud things,


What shall be given to you? Or what shall be done to you, O false tongue?


Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, who speak peace to their neighbors, yet evil is in their hearts.


For they do not speak peace; but they think deceitful things against the quiet ones of the earth.


The butterings of his mouth were forked, but war was in his heart; his words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.


My soul is among lions; I lie among those on fire, the sons of men whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

And everyone will deceive his neighbor and will not speak the truth; they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and they weary themselves to commit iniquity.


For its rich men are full of violence, and its people have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.
