1 And Jehovah said to me, Go again. Love a woman beloved by a friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of Jehovah toward the sons of Israel, who turn to other gods, and love raisin-cakes of grapes.

And he gave out among all the people, among all the multitude of Israel, to the women as well as men, to each one a cake of bread and one raisin-cake. And all the people departed, each one to his house.


And Jehovah was gracious to them, and had pity on them, and had respect to them, because of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And He would not destroy them, nor cast them from His presence as yet.


And he divided to every one of Israel, both man and woman, to every one a loaf of bread and a portion, and a raisin cake.


But for Your great mercies, You did not completely destroy them nor forsake them. For You are a gracious and merciful God.


Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters; as the eyes of a maiden to the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait on Jehovah our God, until He shall have mercy on us.


And they rose up early on the next day and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.


Feed me with raisin cakes, comfort me with apples, for I am sick with love.


Turn to Me, and be saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.


Surely as a wife treacherously departs from her husband, so you have dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, says Jehovah.


Is Ephraim My dear son? Is he a delightful child? For as often as I spoke against him, I earnestly remember him still. Therefore My heart is troubled for him; I will surely have mercy on him, says Jehovah.


How shall I give you up, Ephraim? How shall I deliver you, Israel? How shall I make you like Admah? How shall I set you as Zeboim? My heart is turned within Me; My compassions are kindled together.


For their mother has prostituted herself. She who conceived them has done shamefully. For she said, I will go after my lovers who give my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.


Fornication and wine and new wine take away the heart.


In the day of our king, the rulers have sickened themselves with the heat of wine. He stretches out his hand with scorners.


And they will stretch beside every altar on garments taken in pledge, and they drink the wine of the condemned in the house of their god.


who drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the best of oils; nor do they grieve for the breaking of Joseph!


Therefore I will look to Jehovah; I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me!


Therefore so says Jehovah: I have returned to Jerusalem with mercies. My house shall be built in it, says Jehovah of Hosts. And a line shall be stretched over Jerusalem.


And Jesus said to him, Friend, why are you here? Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took Him.


You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot be partakers of the Lord's table and of a table of demons.


Nor should we be idolaters, even as some of them, as it is written: "The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play."


For the time of life which is past is enough for us to have worked out the will of the nations, having gone on in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, parties, carousings, and abominable idolatries.


And they put away the strange gods from among them, and served Jehovah. And His soul was moved by the misery of Israel.


And they went out into the fields and gathered their vineyards and trod the grapes, and made merry, and went into the house of their god, and ate and drank, and cursed Abimelech.
