Before I was afflicted I went astray; but now I have kept Your Word.


It is good for me that I have been afflicted, so that I might learn Your Precepts.


I said of laughter, It is madness; and of mirth, What does it do?


The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of laughter.


and said, O man greatly beloved, do not fear. Peace to you; be strong; yes, be strong. And when he had spoken to me, I was made stronger, and I said, Speak my lord, for you have made me stronger.


Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.


Woe to you who are full! For you shall hunger. Woe to you who laugh now! For you shall mourn and weep.


For the lightness of our present affliction works out for us a far more excellent eternal weight of glory,
