Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which Jehovah God had made. And he said to the woman, Is it so that God has said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?


And it happened at that time Judah went down from his brothers and turned in to a certain Adullamite, named Hirah.


And Judah sent the kid of the goats by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman's hand. But he did not find her.


And Amnon was so troubled that he fell sick for his sister Tamar, for she was a virgin. And Amnon thought it hard for him to do anything to her.


And Jonadab, the son of David's brother Shimeah answered and said, Let not my lord think that they have killed all the young men, the king's sons. For only Amnon is dead. For by the mouth of Absalom this has been determined from the day that he humbled his sister Tamar.


And he said to him, Why are you, the king's son, lean from day to day? Will you not tell me? And Amnon said to him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister.


And Joab sent to Tekoah and brought a wise woman from there. And he said to her, Please pretend yourself to be a mourner, and put on mourning clothes now, and do not anoint yourself with oil. But be like a woman who has mourned for the dead a long time.


And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimeah, the brother of David, killed him.


And Jesse fathered his first-born Eliab, and Abinadab the second, and Shimma the third,


And Jonathan, David's uncle, was an adviser, a wise man and a scribe. And Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king's sons.


But Haman held himself in. And when he came home, he sent and called for his friends and Zeresh his wife.


And Zeresh his wife and all his friends said to him, Make a wooden gallows, fifty cubits high and tomorrow speak to the king that Mordecai may be hanged on it. Then go in merrily with the king to the banquet. And the thing pleased Haman, and he caused the wooden gallows to be made.


And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had happened to him. Then his wise men and Zeresh his wife said to him, If Mordecai is of the seed of the Jews, before whom you have begun to fall, you shall not prevail against him but shall surely fall before him.


Many will beg the favor of a ruler, and all are friends to a man who gives gifts.


For My people are foolish; they have not known Me; they are stupid sons, and they have no understanding. They are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.


For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God; for it is written, "He takes the wise in their own craftiness."


This is not the wisdom coming down from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.


But Samson's wife was given to his companion, who had served as his friend.


And Samuel said to Jesse, Are all the young men here? And he said, There remains yet the youngest, and behold, he keeps the sheep. And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and bring him, for we will not sit down until he comes here.


And Jesse passed Shammah by, but he said, Also Jehovah has not chosen this one.
