Thus have I been twenty years in thy house: I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy cattle; and thou hast changed my wages ten times.


And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me.


These ten times have ye reproached me: ye are not ashamed that ye make yourselves strange to me.


but lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.


Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness:


Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.


And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt?


And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?


And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness:


Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the Lord?


And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?


And he called the name of the place Massah, and Mer´ibah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying, Is the Lord among us, or not?


And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.


and they said unto them, The Lord look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savor to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.


Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not.


And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.


And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered.


And when the people complained, it displeased the Lord: and the Lord heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the Lord burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.


And the mixed multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?


And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.


And the Lord said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have showed among them?


And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!


save Caleb the son of Jephun´neh the Ken´ezite, and Joshua the son of Nun; for they have wholly followed the Lord.


Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.


But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.


Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.


Remember, and forget not, how thou provokedst the Lord thy God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that thou didst depart out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place, ye have been rebellious against the Lord.


when your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.
