and from above the gate of E´phra-im, and above the old gate, and above the fish gate, and the tower of Han´aneel, and the tower of Me´ah, even unto the sheep gate: and they stood still in the prison gate.

And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithi´ah, and Shema, and Anai´ah, and Uri´jah, and Hilki´ah, and Ma-asei´ah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedai´ah, and Mish´a-el, and Malchi´ah, and Hashum, and Hashbada´na, Zechari´ah, and Meshul´lam.


that saith, I will build me a wide house and large chambers, and cutteth him out windows; and it is ceiled with cedar, and painted with vermilion.


For then the king of Babylon's army besieged Jerusalem: and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the prison, which was in the king of Judah's house.


Moreover the word of the Lord came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying,


Then Zedeki´ah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city were spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.


So they drew up Jeremiah with cords, and took him up out of the dungeon: and Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.


And the Chalde´ans burned the king's house, and the houses of the people, with fire, and brake down the walls of Jerusalem.


And thou, O tower of the flock, the stronghold of the daughter of Zion, unto thee shall it come, even the first dominion; the kingdom shall come to the daughter of Jerusalem.
