And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Beth–el, and pitched his tent, having Beth–el on the west, and Ha´i on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the Lord, and called upon the name of the Lord.


And he called the name of that place Beth–el: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.


Zano´ah, Adul´lam, and in their villages, at Lachish, and the fields thereof, at Aze´kah, and in the villages thereof. And they dwelt from Beer–sheba unto the valley of Hinnom.


and at An´athoth, Nob, Anani´ah,


also from the house of Gilgal, and out of the fields of Geba and Azma´veth: for the singers had builded them villages round about Jerusalem.


He is come to Ai´ath, he is passed to Migron; at Michmash he hath laid up his carriages:


And the border went over from thence toward Luz, to the side of Luz, which is Beth–el, southward; and the border descended to At´aroth–ad´dar, near the hill that lieth on the south side of the nether Beth–ho´ron.


and Beth–ar´abah, and Zemara´im, and Beth–el,


and Che´phar–ha-am´monai, and Ophni, and Gaba; twelve cities with their villages:


Joshua therefore sent them forth; and they went to lie in ambush, and abode between Beth–el and A´i, on the west side of A´i: but Joshua lodged that night among the people.


And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash;


Saul chose him three thousand men of Israel; whereof two thousand were with Saul in Michmash and in mount Beth–el, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gib´e-ah of Benjamin: and the rest of the people he sent every man to his tent.


And the garrison of the Philistines went out to the passage of Michmash.
