Out of that land went forth Asshur, and builded Nin´eveh, and the city Reho´both, and Calah,


So Sennach´erib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nin´eveh.


But a prophet of the Lord was there, whose name was Oded: and he went out before the host that came to Samaria, and said unto them, Behold, because the Lord God of your fathers was wroth with Judah, he hath delivered them into your hand, and ye have slain them in a rage that reacheth up unto heaven.


and said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens.


So Sennach´erib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nin´eveh.


Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and show my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.


Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.


And thou shalt speak my words unto them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear: for they are most rebellious.


And they consider not in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness: now their own doings have beset them about; they are before my face.


Arise, go unto Nin´eveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.


So Jonah arose, and went unto Nin´eveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nin´eveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey.


and should not I spare Nin´eveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?


But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the Lord, and of judgment, and of might, to declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.

There is no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?


and ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.


The men of Nin´eveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and, behold, a greater than Jonah is here.


Behold, the hire of the laborers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of Sab´a-oth.


For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
