And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.


And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.


Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.


The Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.


And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Ava, and from Hamath, and from Sepharva´im, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel: and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.


While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chalde´ans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.


that thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!


Behold the land of the Chalde´ans; this people was not, till the Assyrian founded it for them that dwell in the wilderness: they set up the towers thereof, they raised up the palaces thereof; and he brought it to ruin.


And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the Lord, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chalde´ans, and will make it perpetual desolations.


And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son's son, until the very time of his land come: and then many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of him.


In the third year of the reign of Jehoi´akim king of Judah came Nebuchadnez´zar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.


Then came he out of the land of the Chalde´ans, and dwelt in Haran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell.


For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.


And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
