Yet, Lord, thou knowest all their counsel against me to slay me: forgive not their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from thy sight, but let them be overthrown before thee; deal thus with them in the time of thine anger.


Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the prophets; This man is not worthy to die: for he hath spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.


Therefore the princes said unto the king, We beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.


What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.


They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.


The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.


And they gave him audience unto this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.


But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.


Then the men of the city said unto Jo´ash, Bring out thy son, that he may die: because he hath cast down the altar of Ba´al, and because he hath cut down the grove that was by it.
