Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.


In his days Pha´raoh–ne´choh king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphra´tes: and king Josi´ah went against him; and he slew him at Megid´do, when he had seen him.


And the king of Egypt made Eli´akim his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem, and turned his name to Jehoi´akim. And Necho took Jeho´ahaz his brother, and carried him to Egypt.


Wherefore I praised the dead which are already dead, more than the living which are yet alive.


The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come.


neither shall men tear themselves for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.


For thus saith the Lord touching Shallum the son of Josi´ah king of Judah, which reigned instead of Josi´ah his father, which went forth out of this place; He shall not return thither any more:


Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning Jehoi´akim the son of Josi´ah king of Judah; They shall not lament for him, saying, Ah my brother! or, Ah sister! they shall not lament for him, saying, Ah lord! or, Ah his glory!


But to the land whereunto they desire to return, thither shall they not return.


Therefore thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Drink ye, and be drunken, and spew, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.


and I will bring again to this place Jeconi´ah the son of Jehoi´akim king of Judah, with all the captives of Judah, that went into Babylon, saith the Lord: for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.


For thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; As mine anger and my fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt: and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.


so that none of the remnant of Judah, which are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall escape or remain, that they should return into the land of Judah, to the which they have a desire to return to dwell there: for none shall return but such as shall escape.


They that be slain with the sword are better than they that be slain with hunger: for these pine away, stricken through for want of the fruits of the field.


Son of man, behold, I take away from thee the desire of thine eyes with a stroke: yet neither shalt thou mourn nor weep, neither shall thy tears run down.


But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.
