He was a mighty hunter before the Lord: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord.


And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.


Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.


And it came to pass in the days of Am´raphel king of Shinar, Ar´i-och king of Ella´sar, Chedorla-o´mer king of Elam, and Tidal king of nations;


Is not Calno as Car´chemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus?


And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.


At that time Mer´odach–bal´adan, the son of Bal´adan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezeki´ah: for he had heard that he had been sick, and was recovered.


Inquire, I pray thee, of the Lord for us; for Nebuchadrez´zar king of Babylon maketh war against us; if so be that the Lord will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, that he may go up from us.


The word that the Lord spake against Babylon and against the land of the Chalde´ans by Jeremiah the prophet.


Go up against the land of Meratha´im, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: waste and utterly destroy after them, saith the Lord, and do according to all that I have commanded thee.


Haran, and Canneh, and Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad, were thy merchants.


And the Lord gave Jehoi´akim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.


Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?


Be in pain, and labor to bring forth, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in travail: for now shalt thou go forth out of the city, and thou shalt dwell in the field, and thou shalt go even to Babylon; there shalt thou be delivered; there the Lord shall redeem thee from the hand of thine enemies.


And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.


And he said unto me, To build it a house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base.
