And Joseph said unto them the third day, This do, and live; for I fear God:


Notwithstanding the king's word prevailed against Jo´ab, and against the captains of the host. And Jo´ab and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.


But the former governors that had been before me were chargeable unto the people, and had taken of them bread and wine, besides forty shekels of silver; yea, even their servants bare rule over the people: but so did not I, because of the fear of God.


Then the king's servants, which were in the king's gate, said unto Mor´decai, Why transgressest thou the king's commandment?


Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!


And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive?


And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.


By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.


The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.


Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.


Though a sinner do evil a hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:


Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.


E´phra-im is oppressed and broken in judgment, because he willingly walked after the commandment.


For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and ye walk in their counsels; that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof a hissing: therefore ye shall bear the reproach of my people.


And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.


But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.


Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.


And the king said unto the footmen that stood about him, Turn, and slay the priests of the Lord; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew when he fled, and did not show it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of the Lord.
