Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the Lord, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.


And David went up by the ascent of mount Ol´ivet, and wept as he went up, and had his head covered, and he went barefoot: and all the people that was with him covered every man his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up.


And the king said, And where is thy master's son? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he abideth at Jerusalem: for he said, Today shall the house of Israel restore me the kingdom of my father.


Then said Ziba unto the king, According to all that my lord the king hath commanded his servant, so shall thy servant do. As for Mephib´osheth, said the king, he shall eat at my table, as one of the king's sons.


And, behold, thou hast with thee Shim´e-i the son of Gera, a Benjamite of Bahu´rim, which cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went to Mahana´im: but he came down to meet me at Jordan, and I sware to him by the Lord, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword.


And the Lord said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes,


he is gone up to Bajith, and to Dibon, the high places, to weep: Moab shall howl over Nebo, and over Me´deba: on all their heads shall be baldness, and every beard cut off.


that there came certain from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, even fourscore men, having their beards shaven, and their clothes rent, and having cut themselves, with offerings and incense in their hand, to bring them to the house of the Lord.


Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.


Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.


Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.
