Then David arose from the ground, and washed and anointed himself. And when he had changed his apparel, he went into the house of the Lord: and worshipped. And then he came into his own house, and he called for bread, and ate.


But David went up by the ascent of mount Olivet, going up and weeping, walking barefoot, and with his head covered: and all the people that were with them went up with their heads covered weeping.


And the king said: Where is thy master's son? And Siba answered the king: He remained in Jerusalem, saying: To-day will the house of Israel restore me the kingdom of my father.


And Siba said to the king: As thou my lord the king hast commanded thy servant, so will thy servant do: and Miphiboseth shall eat at my table, as one of the sons of the king.


Thou hast also with thee Semei the son of Gera the son of Jemini of Bahurim, who cursed me with a grievous curse, when I went to the camp; but because he came down to meet me when I passed over the Jordan, and I swore to him by the Lord, saying: I will not kill thee with a sword.


And he said to him: Go to the people, and sanctify them today, and tomorrow; and let them wash their garments.


The house is gone up, and Dibon to the high places, to mourn over Nabo: and over Medaba Moab hath howled. On all their heads shall be baldness, and every beard shall be shaven.


There came some from Sichem and from Silo and from Samaria, fourscore men, with their beards shaven and their clothes rent and mourning: and they had offerings and incense in their hand, to offer in the house of the Lord.


And when you fast, be not as the hypocrites, sad. For they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward.


Rejoice with them that rejoice; weep with them that weep.


Remember them that are in bands, as if you were bound with them; and them that labour, as being yourselves also in the body.
