And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Haz´a-el shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Eli´sha slay.


So the king of Israel and Jehosh´aphat the king of Judah went up to Ra´moth–gil´e-ad.


the son of Geber, in Ra´moth–gil´e-ad; to him pertained the towns of Ja´ir the son of Manas´seh, which are in Gil´e-ad; to him also pertained the region of Argob, which is in Bashan, threescore great cities with walls and brazen bars:


And he went and sent to Jehosh´aphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab hath rebelled against me: wilt thou go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as thou art, my people as thy people, and my horses as thy horses.


And it came to pass on the morrow, that he took a thick cloth, and dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died: and Haz´a-el reigned in his stead.


And king Joram went back to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Haz´a-el king of Syria. And Ahazi´ah the son of Jeho´ram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.


And Eli´sha the prophet called one of the children of the prophets, and said unto him, Gird up thy loins, and take this box of oil in thine hand, and go to Ra´moth–gil´e-ad:


So Jehu the son of Jehosh´aphat the son of Nimshi conspired against Joram. (Now Joram had kept Ra´moth–gil´e-ad, he and all Israel, because of Haz´a-el king of Syria.


But king Joram was returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him, when he fought with Haz´a-el king of Syria.) And Jehu said, If it be your minds, then let none go forth nor escape out of the city to go to tell it in Jezreel.


So Jehu rode in a chariot, and went to Jezreel; for Joram lay there. And Ahazi´ah king of Judah was come down to see Joram.


And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehosh´aphat, that they said, It is the king of Israel. Therefore they compassed about him to fight: but Jehosh´aphat cried out, and the Lord helped him; and God moved them to depart from him.


And Jehu the son of Hana´ni the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehosh´aphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the Lord? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the Lord.


He walked also after their counsel, and went with Jeho´ram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Haz´a-el king of Syria at Ra´moth–gil´e-ad: and the Syrians smote Joram.


And on the other side Jordan by Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness upon the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gil´e-ad out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manas´seh.


And out of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gil´e-ad with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Mahana´im with her suburbs,
