And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord slew him.


And he shall give Israel up because of the sins of Jerobo´am, who did sin, and who made Israel to sin.


But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the Lord, whom Jez´ebel his wife stirred up.


And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord; he departed not from all the sins of Jerobo´am the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin: but he walked therein.


And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, and followed the sins of Jerobo´am the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.


Nevertheless they departed not from the sins of the house of Jerobo´am, who made Israel sin, but walked therein: and there remained the grove also in Samaria.)


In the fifteenth year of Amazi´ah the son of Jo´ash king of Judah, Jerobo´am the son of Jo´ash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, and reigned forty and one years.


He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of the Lord God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of his servant Jonah, the son of Amit´tai, the prophet, which was of Gath–he´pher.


And he made his son pass through the fire, and observed times, and used enchantments, and dealt with familiar spirits and wizards: he wrought much wickedness in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger.


Nevertheless he cleaved unto the sins of Jerobo´am the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.


Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass.


Then Amazi´ah the priest of Beth–el sent to Jerobo´am king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.


but prophesy not again any more at Beth–el: for it is the king's chapel, and it is the king's court.


Now therefore hear thou the word of the Lord: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac.


and the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jerobo´am with the sword.


And I fell down before the Lord, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither eat bread nor drink water, because of all your sins which ye sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger.
