And there they left their images, and David and his men burned them.


For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree.


And also Ma´achah his mother, even her he removed from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove; and Asa destroyed her idol, and burnt it by the brook Kidron.


And he reared up an altar for Ba´al in the house of Ba´al, which he had built in Samaria.


And all the people of the land went into the house of Ba´al, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Ba´al before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the Lord.


He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brazen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehush´tan.


and have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.


And the altars that were on the top of the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which Manas´seh had made in the two courts of the house of the Lord, did the king beat down, and brake them down from thence, and cast the dust of them into the brook Kidron.


And the king commanded Hilki´ah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the door, to bring forth out of the temple of the Lord all the vessels that were made for Ba´al, and for the grove, and for all the host of heaven: and he burned them without Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them unto Beth–el.


And he brought out the grove from the house of the Lord, without Jerusalem, unto the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and stamped it small to powder, and cast the powder thereof upon the graves of the children of the people.


And he wrought evil in the sight of the Lord; but not like his father, and like his mother: for he put away the image of Ba´al that his father had made.


And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.


And when he had broken down the altars and the groves, and had beaten the graven images into powder, and cut down all the idols throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.


By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged; and this is all the fruit to take away his sin; when he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in sunder, the groves and images shall not stand up.


But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.
