So Jo´ab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Ab´salom to Jerusalem.


And Ab´salom answered Jo´ab, Behold, I sent unto thee, saying, Come hither, that I may send thee to the king, to say, Wherefore am I come from Geshur? it had been good for me to have been there still: now therefore let me see the king's face; and if there be any iniquity in me, let him kill me.


For thy servant vowed a vow while I abode at Geshur in Syria, saying, If the Lord shall bring me again indeed to Jerusalem, then I will serve the Lord.


And, behold, the servants of David and Jo´ab came from pursuing a troop, and brought in a great spoil with them: but Abner was not with David in Hebron; for he had sent him away, and he was gone in peace.


and his second, Chil´e-ab, of Ab´igail the wife of Nabal the Car´melite; and the third, Ab´salom the son of Ma´acah the daughter of Tal´mai king of Geshur;


of Syria, and of Moab, and of the children of Ammon, and of the Philistines, and of Am´alek, and of the spoil of Hadade´zer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.


And he took Geshur, and Aram, with the towns of Ja´ir, from them, with Kenath, and the towns thereof, even threescore cities. All these belonged to the sons of Machir the father of Gil´e-ad.


So Moses brought Israel from the Red sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.


Then came Am´alek, and fought with Israel in Reph´idim.


The Amal´ekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jeb´usites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.


Then the Amal´ekites came down, and the Canaanites which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, even unto Hormah.


and reigned in mount Hermon, and in Salcah, and in all Bashan, unto the border of the Gesh´urites and the Ma-ach´athites, and half Gil´e-ad, the border of Sihon king of Heshbon.


Nevertheless the children of Israel expelled not the Gesh´urites, nor the Ma-ach´athites: but the Gesh´urites and the Ma-ach´athites dwell among the Israelites until this day.


This is the land that yet remaineth: all the borders of the Philistines, and all Gesh´uri,


And they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the E´phra-imites unto this day, and serve under tribute.


Neither did E´phra-im drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.


Then Achish called David, and said unto him, Surely, as the Lord liveth, thou hast been upright, and thy going out and thy coming in with me in the host is good in my sight: for I have not found evil in thee since the day of thy coming unto me unto this day: nevertheless the lords favor thee not.


And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amal´ekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire;
