And it came to pass after two full years, that Ab´salom had sheepshearers in Ba´al–ha´zor, which is beside E´phra-im: and Ab´salom invited all the king's sons.


Now Ab´salom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark ye now when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say unto you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: have not I commanded you? be courageous, and be valiant.


So Abner came to David to Hebron, and twenty men with him. And David made Abner and the men that were with him a feast.


And they went out at noon. But Ben–ha´dad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him.


A good man showeth favor, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.


Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.


A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things.


The crown of pride, the drunkards of E´phra-im, shall be trodden under feet:

Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbors; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompense be made thee.


And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.


Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying:


Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.


And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;


And she said unto her servants, Go on before me; behold, I come after you. But she told not her husband Nabal.


But it came to pass in the morning, when the wine was gone out of Nabal, and his wife had told him these things, that his heart died within him, and he became as a stone.
