But Jesus knew what happened. He said, “Why are you bothering this woman? She did a very good thing for me.


Teach them to obey everything that I have told you to do. You can be sure that I will be with you always. I will continue with you until the end of time.”


You will always have the poor with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me.


You will always have those who are poor with you. But you will not always have me.”


Jesus said, “My children, I will be with you only a short time more. You will look for me, but I tell you now what I told the Jewish leaders: Where I am going you cannot come.


In a very short time the people in the world will not see me anymore. But you will see me. You will live because I live.


I came from the Father into the world. Now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”


Now I am going back to the one who sent me. And none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’


“Now I am coming to you. I will not stay in the world, but these followers of mine are still in the world. Holy Father, keep them safe by the power of your name—the name you gave me. Then they will be one, just as you and I are one.


“But Jesus must stay in heaven until the time when all things will be made right again. God told about this time when he spoke long ago through his holy prophets.


They asked us to do only one thing—to remember to help those who are poor. And this was something that I really wanted to do.


There will always be poor people in the land. That is why I command you to be ready to help your brother or sister. Give to the poor in your land who need help.


Suppose a believer who is rich enough to have all the necessities of life sees a fellow believer who is poor and does not have even basic needs. What if the rich believer does not help the poor one? Then it is clear that God’s love is not in that person’s heart.
