In whose eyes a vile man is despised, but who honors those who fear the LORD; he who keeps an oath even when it hurts, and doesn't change;


*You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.


Hear you this, house of Ya`akov, who are called by the name of Yisra'el, and are come forth out of the waters of Yehudah; who swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Yisra'el, but not in truth, nor in righteousness


but you turned and profaned my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his handmaid, whom you had let go free at their pleasure, to return; and you brought them into subjection, to be to you for servants and for handmaids.


and you shall swear, As the LORD lives, in truth, in justice, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.


Though they say, As the LORD lives; surely they swear falsely.


Will you steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense to Ba`al, and walk after other gods that you have not known,


*'You shall not give any of your children to sacrifice to Molekh; neither shall you profane the name of your God: I am the LORD.


I also will set my face against that person, and will cut him off from among his people because he has given of his seed to Molekh, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my holy name.

*You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.


But above all things, my brothers, don't swear, neither by heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath; but let your *yes* be *yes,* and your *no,* *no;* so that you don't fall into hypocrisy.
