Joshua 1:1 - Good News Translation (US Version)

1 After the death of the Lord's servant Moses, the Lord spoke to Moses' helper, Joshua son of Nun.

anoint Jehu son of Nimshi as king of Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah to succeed you as prophet.


King Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there a prophet here through whom we can consult the Lord?” An officer of King Joram's forces answered, “Elisha son of Shaphat is here. He was Elijah's assistant.”


All the people who had come back from captivity built shelters and lived in them. This was the first time it had been done since the days of Joshua son of Nun, and everybody was excited and happy.


Moses and his helper Joshua got ready, and Moses began to go up the holy mountain.


Then Joshua son of Nun, who had been Moses' helper since he was a young man, spoke up and said to Moses, “Stop them, sir!”


It is different when I speak with my servant Moses; I have put him in charge of all my people Israel.


These are the spies Moses sent to explore the land. He changed the name of Hoshea son of Nun to Joshua.


Whoever is faithful in small matters will be faithful in large ones; whoever is dishonest in small matters will be dishonest in large ones.


Later on, our ancestors who received the tent from their fathers carried it with them when they went with Joshua and took over the land from the nations that God drove out as they advanced. And it stayed there until the time of David.


From Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus and an apostle chosen and called by God to preach his Good News.


But strengthen the determination of your helper, Joshua son of Nun. He will lead Israel to occupy the land.’


Then the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun and told him, “Be confident and determined. You will lead the people of Israel into the land that I promised them, and I will be with you.”


The Lord your God himself will go before you and destroy the nations living there, so that you can occupy their land; and Joshua will be your leader, as the Lord has said.


These are the blessings that Moses, the man of God, pronounced on the people of Israel before he died.


No other prophet has been able to do the great and terrifying things that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.


So Moses, the Lord's servant, died there in the land of Moab, as the Lord had said he would.


Joshua son of Nun was filled with wisdom, because Moses had appointed him to be his successor. The people of Israel obeyed Joshua and kept the commands that the Lord had given them through Moses.

until they have occupied the land west of the Jordan that the Lord your God has given them. When he has given safety to all the tribes of Israel, then you may come back and settle here in your own land east of the Jordan, which Moses, the Lord's servant, gave to you.”


He said, “My servant Moses is dead. Get ready now, you and all the people of Israel, and cross the Jordan River into the land that I am giving them.


These two kings were defeated by Moses and the people of Israel. Moses, the Lord's servant, gave their land to the tribes of Reuben and Gad and to half the tribe of Manasseh, to be their possession.


I am the living one! I was dead, but now I am alive forever and ever. I have authority over death and the world of the dead.
