Proverbs 1:6

I will incline my ear to a proverb; I will solve my riddle to the music of the lyre.


I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings from of old,


These also are sayings of the wise. Partiality in judging is not good.


The words of the wise are like goads, and like nails firmly fixed are the collected sayings; they are given by one Shepherd.


And at the latter end of their kingdom, when the transgressors have reached their limit, a king of bold face, one who understands riddles, shall arise.


With him I speak mouth to mouth, clearly, and not in riddles, and he beholds the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?”


And he said to them, “To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God, but for those outside everything is in parables,


He did not speak to them without a parable, but privately to his own disciples he explained everything.


But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.


as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures.
