He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.


After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will raise us up, that we may live before him.


From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.


Then they spit in his face and struck him. And some slapped him,


and said, “Sir, we remember how that impostor said, while he was still alive, ‘After three days I will rise.’

And some began to spit on him and to cover his face and to strike him, saying to him, “Prophesy!” And the guards received him with blows.


for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.”


And Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him. Then, arraying him in splendid clothing, he sent him back to Pilate.


For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.


and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.”
