In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was diseased in his feet, and his disease became severe. Yet even in his disease he did not seek the Lord, but sought help from physicians.


With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people took confidence from the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.


For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God.


Those of low estate are but a breath; those of high estate are a delusion; in the balances they go up; they are together lighter than a breath.


Stop regarding man in whose nostrils is breath, for of what account is he?


Then they shall be dismayed and ashamed because of Cush their hope and of Egypt their boast.


Behold, you are trusting in Egypt, that broken reed of a staff, which will pierce the hand of any man who leans on it. Such is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.


Truth is lacking, and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. The Lord saw it, and it displeased him that there was no justice.
