he said, “Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be to his brothers.”


The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts.


Be to me a rock of refuge, to which I may continually come; you have given the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.


Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the Lord drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.


Against a godless nation I send him, and against the people of my wrath I command him, to take spoil and seize plunder, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.


Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, and the earth will be shaken out of its place, at the wrath of the Lord of hosts in the day of his fierce anger.


This is the purpose that is purposed concerning the whole earth, and this is the hand that is stretched out over all the nations.


And the waters of the sea will be dried up, and the river will be dry and parched,


And people shall enter the caves of the rocks and the holes of the ground, from before the terror of the Lord, and from the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to terrify the earth.


Cross over your land like the Nile, O daughter of Tarshish; there is no restraint anymore.


And on many waters your revenue was the grain of Shihor, the harvest of the Nile; you were the merchant of the nations.


For you have made the city a heap, the fortified city a ruin; the foreigners’ palace is a city no more; it will never be rebuilt.


Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against his people, and he stretched out his hand against them and struck them, and the mountains quaked; and their corpses were as refuse in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger has not turned away, and his hand is stretched out still.


Why, when I came, was there no man; why, when I called, was there no one to answer? Is my hand shortened, that it cannot redeem? Or have I no power to deliver? Behold, by my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a desert; their fish stink for lack of water and die of thirst.


How can it be quiet when the Lord has given it a charge? Against Ashkelon and against the seashore he has appointed it.”


His horses will be so many that their dust will cover you. Your walls will shake at the noise of the horsemen and wagons and chariots, when he enters your gates as men enter a city that has been breached.


They shall destroy the walls of Tyre and break down her towers, and I will scrape her soil from her and make her a bare rock.


I made the nations quake at the sound of its fall, when I cast it down to Sheol with those who go down to the pit. And all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, were comforted in the world below.


The Lord has given commandment about you: “No more shall your name be perpetuated; from the house of your gods I will cut off the carved image and the metal image. I will make your grave, for you are vile.”


And I will shake all nations, so that the treasures of all nations shall come in, and I will fill this house with glory, says the Lord of hosts.


And every pot in Jerusalem and Judah shall be holy to the Lord of hosts, so that all who sacrifice may come and take of them and boil the meat of the sacrifice in them. And there shall no longer be a trader in the house of the Lord of hosts on that day.


And he was teaching them and saying to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it a den of robbers.”


And he told those who sold the pigeons, “Take these things away; do not make my Father’s house a house of trade.”
