22 And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, of whom he testified and said, ‘I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’

And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. When they told David, “It was the men of Jabesh-gilead who buried Saul,”


but my steadfast love will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you.


Now, therefore, thus you shall say to my servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people Israel.


And he walked in all the sins that his father did before him, and his heart was not wholly true to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father.


because David did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and did not turn aside from anything that he commanded him all the days of his life, except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.


So Saul died for his breach of faith. He broke faith with the Lord in that he did not keep the command of the Lord, and also consulted a medium, seeking guidance.


Boaz fathered Obed, Obed fathered Jesse.


“As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.”


then also my covenant with David my servant may be broken, so that he shall not have a son to reign on his throne, and my covenant with the Levitical priests my ministers.


then I will reject the offspring of Jacob and David my servant and will not choose one of his offspring to rule over the offspring of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will restore their fortunes and will have mercy on them.”


And I will set up over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he shall feed them: he shall feed them and be their shepherd.


Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the Lord their God, and David their king, and they shall come in fear to the Lord and to his goodness in the latter days.


For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep and was laid with his fathers and saw corruption,


And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us,


who found favor in the sight of God and asked to find a dwelling place for the God of Jacob.


But if you still do wickedly, you shall be swept away, both you and your king.”


“I regret that I have made Saul king, for he has turned back from following me and has not performed my commandments.” And Samuel was angry, and he cried to the Lord all night.


For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has also rejected you from being king.”


And Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you. For you have rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you from being king over Israel.”


And Samuel said to him, “The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day and has given it to a neighbor of yours, who is better than you.


The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for myself a king among his sons.”


Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.


And Samuel said, “Why then do you ask me, since the Lord has turned from you and become your enemy?


Thus Saul died, and his three sons, and his armor-bearer, and all his men, on the same day together.
